Amazon Labor Union Files For Election at Albany Facility—'This is something that is not going away.'
The Amazon Labor Union (ALU) has filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board to hold an election at an Amazon distribution facility outside Albany, New York, reported CNN.
“Amazon Labor Union would not confirm how many signatures they’ve gathered from employees at the Albany facility, but have previously said they had surpassed that threshold,” noted the Washington Post.
The Albany-area election campaign is the third conducted by the independent Amazon Labor Union.
In early April, the ALU became the first union to have a majority of voters vote to unionize at Amazon’s JFK8 facility in Staten Island, New York.
While Amazon is still contesting the ALU’s April victory due to alleged misconduct by the ALU, as well as the NLRB, the ALU lost an election at second Staten Island facility in early May.
ALU President Smalls told CNN he is talking to employees who are working to hold elections at other facilities across the country, although he wouldn’t say how many organizing campaigns are underway.
“There will be plenty more to come after that in short order. It’s growing every week,” Smalls said. “All we can do is continue to build and organize. Hopefully the company will change their outlook once they see this is something not going away.”
