BREAKING: UAW dramatically escalates strike against GM and Stellantis, spares Ford for now
Citing progress at Ford, the UAW called on 38 facilities across 20 states owned by GM and Stellantis to go out on strike at 12 pm Friday.
A week after the United Auto Workers (UAW) called its members out on strike at three plants owned by the Detroit Three automakers, UAW President Shawn Fain announced that Ford would be spared an escalation in the union’s ‘targeted strike’ for now, while dramatically increasing the strike against General Motors (GM) and Stellantis.
During a Facebook Live video (view here) on Friday morning, after explaining progress at the negotiating table with Ford (see charts below), Fain explained that GM and Stellantis “are going to need some pushing.”
Though stopping short of an ‘all out’ strike against GM and Stellantis, Fain then announced that all distribution centers would be called out on strike, and striking 38 locations across 20 states, effectively crippling both companies.
