Image: UPS Negotiations Update

Finger pointing as Teamsters-UPS talks break down.

Today is Wednesday, July 5th, the date Teamsters’ President Sean O’Brien announced over the weekend as the date United Parcel Service (UPS) had better give it’s 340,000-member unionized workforce a contract offer they would accept, or the union would likely strike at the end of the month.

Well, things are not looking good…at all. This morning, talks appear to have broken down and the two sides have accused each other of walking away from the bargaining table, reports Reuters.

UPS, issued a statement, urging the Teamsters to return to the bargaining table.

“Refusing to negotiate,” the company stated, “especially when the finish line is in sight, creates significant unease among employees and customers and threatens to disrupt the U.S. economy.”

The Teamsters stated in its own press release that “UPS refused to give the Teamsters a last, best, and final offer, telling the union the company had nothing more to give.”

At this point, unless the two sides can get together and come up with an agreement, a strike at the end of the month appears more and more likely.

Stay tuned.
