New Jersey Governor Signs Bill To Provide Unemployment Compensation To Strikers
UI benefits will be paid after two weeks, and immediately if replacement workers are hired on either a permanent or temporary basis.
On Monday, New Jersey Democratic Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation to provide unemployment compensation to workers who are involved labor disputes after only two weeks and immediately if replacement workers are hired either permanently or even temporarily.
“Workers dedicate a significant portion of their lives to their careers, and they deserve to be protected financially while expressing their legal right to strike over wages, benefits and workplace conditions.” — NJ DOL Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo.
Only a handful of states provide any unemployment compensation to strikers.
