If one reads the headlines today, one might be left with the impression that union organizing is at an all-time high. It is not.

In fact, while election petitions filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) rose 53 percent in 2022, the NLRB’s baseline was 2021, when much of the country was still closed due to pandemic lockdowns.

While it is true that NLRB-conducted elections have increased slightly over the last few years, the number of elections conducted today are but a mere fraction of those the NLRB conducted 30 years ago.
