USDA Gives Nearly $700 Million to Union, Immigrant & Other NGOs to Disperse to Workers for Working During Pandemic

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on Tuesday that it was giving more than $696 million to 15 grant recipients consisting mainly of immigrant NGOs and union charity foundations.
The funds are meant to “provide relief to farmworkers and meatpacking workers who incurred pandemic-related health and safety costs” as well as “for three pilot programs to support grocery workers in recognition of their essential role in the pandemic response.”
Of the 15 NGO recipients, at least two (2) are union charity foundations which will receive a combined $239.5 million.
