QUICK FACTS:

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on Tuesday that it was giving more than $696 million to 15 grant recipients consisting mainly of immigrant NGOs and union charity foundations.

  • The funds are meant to “provide relief to farmworkers and meatpacking workers who incurred pandemic-related health and safety costs” as well as “for three pilot programs to support grocery workers in recognition of their essential role in the pandemic response.”

  • Of the 15 NGO recipients, at least two (2) are union charity foundations which will receive a combined $239.5 million.
