On Thursday, the in-house staff of 1199SEIU-United Healthcare Workers East took to the streets to protest the union’s alleged union-busting.
The protest comes the day before the NLRB sent out mail ballots to over 250 union staffers deciding whether or not to become unionized, and days after union management allegedly fired Donald Hemmings, Education Coordinator, without cause earlier this week.
WATCH:
The union staffers’ protest comes after weeks of anti-union actions by union management.
The staffers’ in-house organizing committee has filed several unfair labor practice charges against union management.
In turn, 1199SEIU-UHW management is reportedly using a retired union officer to try to persuade staff from unionizing.
Although agents of employers hired to persuade employees in the exercise of their [NLRA] Section Seven rights are required to file disclosures with the Department of Labor, 1199SEIU’s agent does not appear to have done so.
The DOL’s Office of Labor Management Standards (OLMS) has not responded to an inquiry in this matter..
