With Two High-Profile Amazon Elections Not Yet Finalized, Here's A Summary Of Where They Stand
THE SUMMARY:
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) began counting ballots at Amazon in two separate elections—Bessemer, Alabama and Staten Island, New York—but stopped at the end of the day
In Bessemer, Alabama, Amazon “won” 993 to the RWDSU’s 875. However, there were 416 challenged ballots, which means they could ultimately determine the outcome. Which, if any, of the challenged ballots will be opened will be determined by the NLRB in a few weeks.
On the Alabama election, RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum stated: “Every vote will be counted. In the days to come, we fully expect Amazon to continue to manipulate the system, to stop workers...at any cost...We will continue to do everything we can to hold Amazon accountable.”
As the RWDSU has already filed unfair labor practices against Amazon in Bessemer, by rolling them into election objections, it is possible the NLRB could, once again, use those charges to overturn a possible company win.
In Staten Island, New York, the independent Amazon Labor Union was ahead 1518 to 1154 when the NLRB stopped counting ballots at the end of the day. Counting will resume at 9:30 am on Friday.
