X Released Its AI 'Grok' to Premium+ Users—Here's how it did writing a story about Corrupt Union Boss Johnny Doc's Conviction
Using the same prompts: We tried X's AI bot in 'Fun' mode and 'Regular' mode.
It’s hard to keep up with the competition between Artificial Intelligence (AI) bots. Between OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing.com’s ‘Chat’ and a host of AI tools, it gets downright confusing.
However, as readers know, we’ve been having conversations, as well as sharing news and creating articles about AI, as well as experimentally using AI for months now to bring you our findings.
Well, this week, Elon Musk’s X (the social media app formerly known as Twitter) released its artificial intelligence bot (whimsically called ‘Grok’) to Premium + subscribers.
As Grok was reportedly modeled after Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and is being billed as “the most real-time AI” yet, we decided to put it to the test.
Using both Grok’s ‘fun’ and ‘regular’ modes, we asked Grok to write a news article about a current event, the conviction of former Philadelphia labor leader John Dougerty, which occurred only yesterday.
Here’s how it did:
Prompt: Write a news article about the corruption trial of Johnny Doc
Grok’s response in ‘fun’ mode:
Title: Former Union Leader "Johnny Doc" Dougherty Found Guilty in Corruption Trial
In a significant development in the ongoing saga of Philadelphia's political landscape, former labor leader John "Johnny Doc" Dougherty was found guilty on numerous counts of embezzlement and conspiracy in a federal corruption trial that concluded on December 7th, 2023. The trial, which lasted for six weeks, focused on allegations that Dougherty used union funds for personal expenses and kept a city council member on the union payroll to maintain control over construction jobs.
The jury found Dougherty guilty on 70 counts, including embezzlement, conspiracy, wire fraud, tax fraud, and falsifying financial reports. The overwhelming number of guilty verdicts demonstrates the strength of the case presented by the government.
This is the second conviction for Dougherty in two years, making it more likely that he will serve prison time. He still faces a possible third trial on extortion charges.
The testimony of Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Kevin Dougherty, who is John Dougherty's brother, surfaced during the trial. John Dougherty's sentencing has been postponed until all charges against him are resolved.
Here is Grok’s response in ‘regular’ mode:
