Not really sure what the ‘union’ connection is here. Two unions called for less senseless gun violence, and the third called for common sense gun safety. Neither position necessarily calls for ‘gun control’. Shouldn’t we all be looking for a way to reduce the ability of people to try to assassinate a Presidential candidate? And as we head down this rabbit hole, any connection to unions becomes even more tenuous.
Tor, the only connection is that their comments went to politics in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, as opposed to doing what other leaders did...condemn the action, wish the victims well. Verrett's was the most asinine.
I do appreciate that you post news from both sides, but I guess I don’t see the politics in ‘less gun violence’ or ‘common sense gun safety’. We may draw that line differently, but I assume that everyone agrees there should be a line.
Tor, to be charitable to the three, at best it was tone deaf...
These three, combined, represent around six million workers. Whether it was Trump, RFK Jr., or anyone else, they could have followed the examples of Cummings, Shuler, and Obama and just condemned political violence, offered condolences, and wished. Instead, they brought in a political hot-button issue with their statements.
Well, that’s what I meant by ‘rabbit hole’. Sure, they could have said they condemn violence like everyone else. Or, they could have suggested that maybe we make some bipartisan changes to prevent Trump from getting shot again.
When a baby falls down some steps, it is good to comfort the baby and its parents. But it is also not wrong to go and close the baby gate at the top of the stairs (IMO- you may disagree).
At most, this is a union saying something that is tone deaf and dumb. Are you going to do a column on everything management says that is tone deaf and dumb? You have tons of material with Elon Musk!
