Kind of a reach here, right? She filed 300 FOIA requests - which is a little different from showing up at a parent teacher conference to ask what's on the curriculum. Seems like this is less about labor relations and more about anti-DEI protests.

If you listened to the episode, that was one of my questions: Why so many? She explained it.

She did. But her issue here is really that the school district is not teaching the values she wants them to teach. Which is true in every school district in America. There are some parents who want their kids to be taught that the right to bear arms is inviolate, and others who want their kids to learn that guns are dangerous and should be carefully regulated. Some parents will want their kids to get the full DARE anti-drug program, and others who probably take edibles with their teens. There is really nothing new here except the issues the parents are complaining about.

The only part of this which is a 'union story' is the allegation that the teacher's union somehow runs the state of RI. Which doesn't get discussed other than vague allegations about unions supporting politicians (who could also be supported by things like the Goldwater Institute).

It's your website, and I do appreciate the content that you collect here on a daily basis. It's why I became a subscriber and talked others into subscribing as well. But there is a big difference between a wide selection of union-related news, that has a union-free slant, and signing on to the anti-CRT/DEI/'there are only two genders' bandwagon that this is about.

If you are open to something that is intended as constructive criticism, mine is that articles like this are far more about the culture wars that have very little to do with unions, and everything about politics.

I appreciate your constructive criticism. For guests on the podcast (as well as the article topics I write on) my first standard is if I think it’s interesting.

My second is whether readers or listeners might find it interesting.

When I first saw Nicole’s bio on ‘X,’ what piqued my interest was not that her queries were about DEI, but that the union actually sued her…which seemed pretty extreme.
