Labor Relations Radio Guests to Testify Wednesday Before House Subcommittee Hearing On Workforce Protections
The House Subcommittee on Workforce Protections’ hearing is titled “Examining Biden’s War on Independent Contractors”
Dear Subscribers:
Within the last day or so, we were informed that two of our Labor Relations Radio guests will be testifying on Wednesday before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Workforce Protections’ Hearing on Independent Contractors.
Subcommittee Chairman Kevin Kiley (R-CA) has invited Fight For Freelancers USA’s Kim Kavin, who has been a repeat guest on Labor Relations Radio, as well as Freelancers Against AB5’s Karen Anderson (whose latest episode just aired on Monday) to testify before the subcommittee, which will “examine [President] Biden’s war on independent contractors, and DOL nominee Julie Su’s role in destroying worker livelihoods.”
Background: Labor Relations Radio, Ep. 50—Guest Kim Kavin on the latest in the Fight to Save Freelancers and Gig Workers
Having interviewed these guests on several occasions, there are no two people better suited to explain the existential threats of the ‘ABC Test’ (the foundation of California’s AB5), the DOL’s proposed independent contractor rules, as well as the PRO Act (which includes the ABC Test) to the 60-70 million Americans who do independent contracting or ‘gig work’ than Kim Kavin and Karen Anderson.
“The last thing our economy needs right now is overreaching federal policies that discourage work and attack workers,” Chair Kevin Kiley stated in a press release. “Yet DOL’s independent contractor rule and the PRO Act, like AB 5 in California, do just that – depriving millions of Americans of the opportunity to work independently and start their own business.”
The Subcommittee on Workforce Protections’ hearing titled “Examining Biden’s War on Independent Contractors” will begin at 10:15 eastern and is open to press and will be livestreamed here.
