To our subscribers:
Every now and then, I receive a comment from an individual—usually as they unsubscribe from receiving our emails—who don’t care for the content we publish. Almost always, the comments come from those whose biases run so deep that they do not care to know the information provided if it does not comport with their particular bias.
In any case, to clear up any confusion, I felt this would be as good time as any to explain the purpose of LaborUnionNews.com and our content.
While our audience consists of primarily labor, employee relations and human resources professionals, as well as some union officers or staff, we recognize that everyone has biases.
When we launched LaborUnionNews.com as a news aggregator in January 2022, our primary purpose was to create the “Most Comprehensive Source for News and Views About Today’s Unions”—regardless of a particular “side” (i.e., pro-union or anti-union).
To that end, having posted over 32,000 links to articles, as long as it ties (either directly or indirectly) to labor and employee relations issues, we publish links from all sides of the union-management divide—from the Socialist Jacobin to the Daily Caller and everything in between. This includes, by the way, links to union press releases.
We are anti-echo chamber…
Much of the ‘mainstream media’ today can be considered, to varying degrees on particular topics, a vast echo chamber. Many of today’s “journalists” (depending on outlet) merely echo specific points.
Whether our readers agree or disagree with a writer’s position, we believe our readers are sophisticated enough to know where the bias is and, regardless of bias, are deserving of the information provided.
When it comes to our specific articles and op-eds, as well as the Labor Relations Radio podcast episodes, the purpose of those are to bring you content and insights that, hopefully, you will find interesting and informative.
Often, our articles will come about in response to something in the news that needs further explanation or a perspective that mainstream journalists leave out of the story—either intentionally or just due to a lack of historical knowledge. [This is but one example.]
We try to bring you diversity of thought, but…
With our guests on Labor Relations Radio, listeners may note that some guests may be considered center-right leaning. Again, we try to bring you guests that you will find interesting and informative.
Though we have had several “union-side” guests on the podcast (e.g., two pro-union writers1, and a former NLRB Chairman from the Obama era), the lack of political diversity among our guests is not for lack of trying.
To date, though they were scheduled, we have been ‘ghosted’ by several union agents, as well as turned down by a few pro-union writers.
We value you.
We value you as subscribers, regardless of your particular bias. We believe, if people have a diversity of information provided, they are better off.
To that end, whether you work in a corporate office, a law office, or a union hall, please continue sharing LaborUnionNews.com with your colleagues and helping us grow!
Best regard,
Peter [aka ‘The Editor’]
Of particular note: One of our union-side guests on the Labor Union News last year was Dan McCrory, Author of 'Capitalism Killed The Middle Class,' who came onto the podcast when he asked why we don’t have “union people” on the podcast. Though we disagree on much, we had a very pleasant conversation.
